I currently use a boxed curriculum (MFW) for all my children elementary through middle school, but for high school I am looking for something a little different and more independent. What have others used for high school? I am looking especially for Social Studies and Language Arts. Bonus if it costs less than $200 and is non-consumable (or the consumable portions are under $40).
I have found great resources online for free through Google books for our language arts. I will post some links. Now for social studies, I am not so sure. We have been doing a current events time, citizenship, and mostly reading from good solid books so I couldn’t give a one stop solution. I know, however, that there are many families enjoying “The Good and The Beautiful” curriculum and it is cost effective. She may have these for free or have samples and possibly a Language arts as well. I haven’t searched the site thoroughly. Let me know what you find. 😊
I don’t have a one-stop solution either, since I tend to patch our school together based on what I like, but I will give a plug for TruthQuest for history. A friend recommended it last year and I couldn’t be more pleased (especially after using Biblioplan, Child’s History of the World, and my own creation–do not recommend that!). It is a spine and costs $30, but you have to purchase the recommended reading to go with it. Many of them can be found at the library or online for free. I already had some of the recommendations in my own family library. It requires a little work to put together, but my kids really enjoyed all the historical fiction and the biblical worldview. It’s a go-at-your-own-pace kind of curriculum too, which I liked. If we enjoyed a topic, we lingered. If not, we covered the basics then moved on.
