My 2nd was born in July, my oldest was 2. My husband is a public school teacher and had the summer off. We used to get them in the car and drive to Costco for a lunch date. The kids would fall asleep and we’d enjoy a slice of pizza and share a delicious hand-dipped chocolate ice cream bar. I really do wish they’d bring those back!
With a newborn our date nights consist of watching a movie on Amazon Prime on Friday nights after the other kiddos have gone to bed. My husband makes popcorn and he buys a chocolate bar on his way home. He knows I like chocolate with my popcorn.
We’ve also ordered pizza, made nachos at home, etc for our movie nights. Most of the time it’s just popcorn and chocolate! 🙂
We don’t go on “dates” often. However, our home has a second living room downstairs that we retreat to each evening after the children are in bed. I try to do my housework and preparations for the next day before the children go to bed so I am available for time with my husband in the evenings. We sometimes play a game or just watch TV, but try to take that time to talk too.
One year, for Valentine’s day I gave my husband a box with “coupons” in them, but they were for romantic things…like bake his favorite cookies after the babies were asleep…wearing just an apron 😉 or date-night in, where we would put the children to bed and then get good take-out and watch a rented movie, whole body massage, etc., and then he could use these whenever he wanted, but had to plan in advance so I had ingredients on-hand, or knew to make an effort to get children and chores done at a certain time.
